MEET THE FOUNDER

An avid gardener and designer, Casey is passionate about connecting people with place. His humble stewardship of the land began early in life recognizing that tall grasses where much more fun to play in than mowed lawn.

Casey finds inspiration and awe in the natural beauty of the California coast, Sierra foothills, and majestic oak woodlands surrounding the Bay Area and works to weave interpretations of those naturally occurring landscapes into peoples home properties.

Observant of the layered stories told by a site’s inhabitants and its architecture, he uses these insights inform his thoughtful design solutions.

WHAT WE DO

At Round the Block Landscaping we specialize in designing, installing, and maintaining dynamic and regenerative landscapes that deepen the client’s connections with their gardens.

We are based in Oakland on the traditional and present-day homeland of the Ohlone people. We have been servicing clients throughout the East Bay for the last nine years. Our focus is cultivating outdoor spaces that create a sense of place. Taking cues from plants culturally important to the owner, we weave significance into our designs to signal that ‘this is home’. Navigating the diverse bio-regions of the bay, these bespoke landscapes incorporate local native plant communities to restore the beauty and ecological function of damaged sites. Our approach is not just designing for the present but stewarding our land for the generations to come with a reverence for those that came before.

If you are looking to bring new life to your yard, we can help bring your vision to life. We also offer ongoing maintenance services to ensure that your landscape establishes gracefully.

PROCESS

The first step is a discovery call to see if we’re a good fit. It consists with a 15-20 minute phone call where we discuss what your vision is for your garden, what your timeline is and your budget.

Next, we can schedule a consultation. This will be an in-person site visit where we discuss your goals and preferences in greater detail, explore opportunities and challenges, and define the project scope and budget. During this visit, I typically conduct a preliminary site analysis, which includes taking critical measurements for estimating, photo documentation, and assessing site conditions. Afterward, I will create a proposal for the project based on our discussion, including a rough budget outline, timeline, and scope of work.

Once the scope and budget are approved we will move forward into the concept phase of the design. This preliminary design conveys the main ideas and approach for your project, developing the layout, character, and spatial relationships of your landscape. We then meet and refine the landscape plan based on your feedback, consider special features, and research materials to enhance the design.

Following this is the details phase of the design where we develop the set of construction documents for irrigation, hardscaping, grading/drainage, lighting, planting plan, and construction details. You will be provided with a plant presentation link which is an interactive look at all the plants that we’ll be planning on to beautify your new and improved garden.

Lastly, we come to the implementation phase of the project. We have a network of contract workers who we’ve developed long-time relationships with. We work in close collaboration to insure our projects go in as specified and to a high level of care.

We’re excited to work with you to transform your outdoor space into a beautiful, functional, and sustainable landscape. If you're ready to begin this journey, we invite you to schedule a discovery call with us. Let’s bring your vision to life!
